This is my personal favorite single from Whodini. Hip hop / Rap was still fresh and hadn't become a bunch of posturing. This single is totally representative of how those old cuts are plain fun. The beat is punctuated with a wicked synth tom, the bass line is massive and pad-like, and then there is the killer, spooky lead synth riff. There's a lot of wild, scary stuff going on in the background, too. The Extended Version is cool, but it's basically the track with some footsteps-at-night in the introduction to set the chilling atmosphere and the track is extended a bit. The real bonus is the Vocoder Version. It is effing wicked. Back in the day, my buddies and I used to try and capture it on tape from a college radio party program. I still throw that track into playlists and mixes for friends. The Vocoder Mix and the Haunted Mix are both part of a Halloween mix I play for the Trick-or-Treaters. The Haunted Mix is pretty trippy with a dialog between two scared buddies before sliding into instrumental mode with a lot of spooky noises. The Acapella Mix is probably best for ol'skool DJ-ing, but nothing special. This single is truly a lost gem.
